I am interested to see what Ye Rim would want or to see how she resists the teacher’s manipulative ways.
Instead, we see an interesting case of “be careful of what you wish for” as the previous victims regret what they had so fervently wanted.
With only 4 episodes in, the story has yet to focus on her investigation / battle with the “demon” teacher. Kim So Hyun’s bread and butter is spunky high school student roles. They are unable to place what is happening, but feel that something is up with the teacher. However, Ye Rim and Sang Woo become a little suspicious of the disappearances and notes left behind by the victims. This “contract” lures other students in as well when they unknowingly sign their souls away just so they fulfill a wish they have. Unfortunately, the class does not remember that she even existed. She “disappears” when the teacher takes her away to his special dimension. She ends up not wanting to be popular anymore because of the pressure, but it is already too late. While she does become mysteriously popular, it actually becomes detrimental to her later on as things escalate. He offers her a deal that will make her wishes of becoming popular true, if she signs a contract. One of his first “victims” is a girl who is an outcast in the class. Said teacher, Bong Gu, offers special counseling to students “in need”.

Together, they experience a series of odd happenings as a substitute teacher takes over their class. Her constant companion and friend that likes her is Sang Woo. Here, she plays Ye Rim, president of her class and number one student academically. I came for Kim So Hyun, of course, one of the most talented young actresses. That’s another thing we love about this mini-series it is open ended for you to interpret and the possibilities of your imagination are infinite.There are seriously so many good dramas that are airing that I will not be able to keep up with! Fortunately, Nightmare Teacher is a special piece where episodes are only 15 minutes each. However, the series does end on a bit of a cliffhanger which we leave you to interpret. He is merely something that exists because it needs to. Just by looking at the quote, you can tell that the teacher is neither a villain nor a hero. That’s why you don’t remember anything when you wake up from a dream. “Nightmares exist to heal the problems that happened in the reality. For instance, look at the quote directly taken and translates from the mini-drama: The writers are attempting to expose the sad reality that we are the people who create, control, and dominate our fears, dreams, and nightmares.īuilding on that, they also outwardly state that nightmares are a NECESSARY evil. Through the small plot point, you can already see in what direction writers Hyun Moon Sub and Jung Yoo Suk are going in. That isn’t to say that he is an absolute villain the teacher drafts contracts and the students endlessly fail to read the fine print which gets them in deep trouble. The series explores this theme through a sketchy teacher (Uhm Ki-Joon) who grants the wishes that students may have whilst using their worst fears against them. The basis of the mini-drama is to show the hidden messages behind the common nightmares that keep us up at night. Buckle up now the amazingness of the show doesn’t end here. Fresh face Kim Ji-An also has an episode where you can see the blossoming talent and beauty that she has. Top stars like Lee Min-Hyuk of BTOB, Baek Seung-Do ( It’s Okay, That’s Love), and Choi Yu-Jin of girl group CLC also have featured roles throughout the show.
In other words, So Hyun was tasked with playing two roles that are complete opposites of each other, and she handled them perfectly! Throughout the series, you will get to see her play the duality that everyone has within themselves. Kim So Hyun stars as Ye Rim and her acting is simply superb. Not only does the title itself spark your curiosity and give you the urge to find out what it’s all about, but the characters as well will have you clicking the play button in a heartbeat. Nightmare High (also known as Nightmare Teacher) is a short mini-series that is available for streaming on Netflix we assure it is a must-watch that will take you no longer than one day to get through.
